New Orleans Real Estate – Tips to make your house sell!!
April 13, 2009
There was a great article in the Real Estate Section of The Times Picayune on Sunday. It was titled “Don’t Curb that enthusiam,” by Victor M. Andrews. The article gave some great pointers to home sellers on how to attract buyers in the current market. It is important for home sellers to note that in a buyer’s market there is a ton of inventory out there for buyer’s to choose from. Making your house stand out from the competition is essential to selling a home in this market.
The article points out that it is important to create curb appeal, because without it you might not even be able to attract buyers into your home. The author illustrates various suggestions such as:
- Painting the front door and the mailbox
- Washing the house
- Planting flowers
- Trimming shrubs
- Maintaining the lawn
Once inside the home, it is important for a buyer to be able to picture the home as if it were their own. Simply picking up is a great place to start. I personally have shown homes recently where there were children’s toys all over the floor. This not only deters buyers, but could also present a potential liability issue for the seller. The article maintains several pointers to attracting the interest of buyers once inside the home:
- Straighten pictures on the wall, furniture, and closets
- De-clutter shelves and bookcases along with playrooms, the attic, and garage
- Repair or Replace carpets, rugs, and counters in the kitchen and bathrooms
So, remember if you are selling your home, the goal is to attract the buyer by being as competitive as possible. By following some of the basic steps above, you’ll be one step ahead of the competition!!
