New Orleans Real Estate – New Orleans ranks#3 on list of Strongest U.S. Housing Markets
August 13, 2009
In a Businessweek article, New Orleans was ranked # 3 on the list for strongest housing markets in the U.S. I found this to be great news, and hopefully yet another positive aspect of the city that will attract businesses and working professionals alike.
The article pointed out that the major reason for such a strong housing market in New Orleans is due to the amount of ongoing construction as a result of government funding, insurance, and private investment into the area because of Hurricane Katrina. Also, helping matters, was the fact that New Orleans had very few of the risky loans that were seen in other areas now hit hardest by foreclosures.
While Katrina was a tragic and devistating event for many, it is interesting to think that it’s effects have, in some part, allowed the city to survive the downturn in the economy, and still maintain a positive housing market.
